DIALOGUES
The Wizard
Character profile:
A very old and wise man. Like many of Lord British'
former council, the Wizard left the court after the
King's departure. Like the others, he remained loyal to
the King, though baffled by his apparent abandonment of
his subjects and his lands. Having no care for politics
and battles over power, he too left the City and devoted
his time to the study of the arcane, taking an occasional
pupil from time to time, among the most gifted
apprentices in the realm. He's extremely protective of
his peace. So he's always established residence in the
most unwelcoming areas. Those who truly need him, will
seek him despite the dangerous places he chooses to live
in. Others with petty requests will just turn around and
leave him to his work.
Dialogue
Come in, come in. I've never had so many visitors in such
short period, especially since I decided to come reside
in this strange place. But enough small talk. You must be
the envoys of the Lady, yes? Good. I will tell you all I
know, and with the help of the Virtues, maybe you can
help the young Marcus and the poor maiden he was trying
to rescue.
Many weeks ago, Judasuelo, an ethereal warrior, came to
me about Marcus' plight. Naturally, I offered my help for
such a noble cause. No young maiden should be doomed to
such horrible fate. So I wrote a letter to Marcus,
bidding him to come visit me so I could help him locate
the Alchemist. You see, the Alchemist and I go way back.
Before Lord British' departure, he and I often got the
chance to work together whenever any perils threatened
Britannia. After our King left, the power struggle in the
court wore him down. He has no care for politics, so he,
as I also did later, and decided to live as a recluse. He
and I kept in touch throughout the years. Then one day, I
suddenly stopped hearing from him. I learned later that
he had been kidnapped but fortunately managed to flee
after many months of seclusion. He hasn't been
communicating with me because he fears those men could
find his trail so I have no idea where he is at the
moment. I heard Marcus had found out about the
Alchemist's whereabouts and that he had left a sea chart
with the Alchemist's coordinates in a cave somewhere.
Sadly, that is all I know on this topic. However, even if
that rumor was true, should you find this sea chart, once
you reach your destination, the Alchemist will be hiding.
He and I had a signal we used to inform each other that
whichever stranger was approaching was not a foe. We would
just send 2 quick flares with a fireworks wand, pause 3
seconds, send another 2 quick flares, pause another 3
second and send 1 more flare. So if you find his hangout
place and do the signal right, he will come to you,
knowing that I sent you.
Now, there is another matter I must tell you about.
Living in this place, among Daemons and Imps, I hear a
lot of what is happening in their world. My Gargish is
very primitive, so I do not understand too much, but I
heard that Semidar forbade all of her subjects to assist
Marcus in any way or form. And to actually make his life
harder if possible. The Gargoyles put the maiden to
sleep. Only a Gargish incantion can awaken her. But the
Gargoyles will not tell Marcus what that word is because
of Semidar's interdiction. So even if you find the
Alchemist and get the cure, you may not be able to awaken
the maiden to revive her.
There is a solution to this issue. Over a year ago, an
old acquaintance told me about this incredible project he
was going to work on. Building a fortress for the Oracle
and her subjects. The Oracle is an extremely powerful
witch, with incredible powers of divination. She
associates with the most evil men, which is something I
never understood because there doesn't seem to be an
ounce of evil in her. Anyways, she possesses a magic
golden chest that will answer any question you may have.
If you manage to find a way to the room where that chest
is kept, you only have to ask what the magic word is to
revive the maiden, and the answer will appear inside the
chest. There are 2 problems with this: first, there is a
special key that will open the chest. I had Marcus steal
that key from the Sorcerer. I don't know what happened to
the key but once you get to the fortress, you will need
to use it on the chest. If you do not have it, I know the
Oracle is able to open the chest without the key, but she
will need to consent to open it for you, and I'm sure
that will come at a price. So I suggest you find the key
if you don't already have it.
Unfortunately, finding the fortress itself will be yet
another challenge. That old acquaintance of mine, the
Architect, hasn't been seen or heard from since he built
that fortress. I don't know whether he fell to foul play
or just burried himself in yet another crazy project. I
can however give you somewhat of a lead. I met the
Architect years ago when he built a mansion for me. Over
the years, I was forced to abandon that house to the
Ophidians who overran it. They used to be peaceful
neighbors, but the Matriarch developped a taste for the
luxury of my house and did all she could to drive me out.
I left my home in a hurry, many of my belongings were
left behind. One of them was a gift from the Architect: a
magic wooden box. He told me: "I cannot give you the
Oracle's golden chest, but this pale comparison will have
to do". It is indeed nothing like the Oracle's
chest, but this box is quite amusing. It tells you
exactly where the Architect can be located, but it will
be somewhat of a riddle. So you will need to figure out
what the word refers to. For instance, if it said Sphynx,
chances are the Architect would be in the Pyramid. If it
said Adranath, then he would probably be in Lakeshire,
and so on... This box as well is locked. You will need to
unlock it. DO NOT break it! Or you will never know of the
Architect's whereabouts. I left the key in one of my
bookshelves. I cannot remember which, so you will need to
look for it on the 2nd floor of the palace. Be quick,
because the Ophidians are not too friendly. Though unlike
the Oracle's golden chest, my magic box does not have a
magic lock. So if you cannot find the key, a high level
lockpicker could open it.
I'm afraid I have no more to tell you, but hopefully, I
will have been of some assistance. All this talking has
exhausted me. May the Virtues guide your steps and keep
you safe from harm.
