Sacrifice
"The important thing is this: to be able at any moment
to sacrifice what we are for what we could become. "
Charles DuBos
“ The courage to give of oneself in the name of love. ”
In the world of UO this translates as the ability to bring yourself back to life as a reward for the sacrifice of your fame. At the level of Knight of sacrifice, you will be able to self-resurrect 3 times per week. This is particularly useful if you tend to hunt solo in far away locations that cannot be recalled to (like Ilshenar and the Felucca Lost Lands). Note that you cannot self-resurrect inside houses, inside faction strongholds or if you are flagged criminal or aggressor.
Unlike Compassion and Valor, this Virtue can only be gained by activating the virtue through the virtue gump located at the top of your paperdoll. To gain Sacrifice, you must sacrifice your fame to redeem a monster. The higher your fame at the time of sacrifice, the more gains you will receive in that virtue. Since you can only gain sacrifice once per 24 hour periods it is highly recommended that you wait until you have pretty much maxed out your fame level to maximize the gains for the day. The creatures that can be redeemed are:
- Lich
- Enslaved Gargoyle
- Gargoyle Enforcer
- Daemon
- Succubus
- Evil Mage
Once you have reached the highest fame possible (karma doesn't count), find one of the above creature to sacrifice your fame as follows:
- Double-click the Virtue gump at the top of your paperdoll
- Double-click the Sacrifice symbol (you will get a target cursor)
- Click on the monster you wish to redeem
You cannot sacrifice to redeem one of the above-mentioned monsters if:
- It has already taken more than 15% of its maximum hit points in damage
- You cannot see it (you must have line-of-sight)
- You are invisible
- You are dead
For each a path reached in this virtue, you will be granted an additional possibility to resurrect yourself.
- Seeker of Sacrifice:
may self-resurrect once a week
- Follower of Sacrifice: may self-resurrect twice a week
- Knight of Sacrifice: may self-resurrect three times a week
Upon self-resurrection, you any items left on your corpse will be automatically returned to your backpack. Any item looted off your corpse before you self-resurrected will be lost. Note that if you cross a server line before you use sacrifice, no items will be returned. You will be warned accordingly before you accept the self-resurrection to determine whether or not you are accepting the loss. Choose carefully where you want to self-resurrect as you will only have 1 HP and 1 Mana upon resurrection. Sacrificing in a highly hostile environment could potentially mean insta-death.
Gaining Sacrifice
This virtue is fairly easy and rather quick to raise. You must raise your fame (preferrably to Lord/Lady level) then sacrifice it to a redeemable creature (see list above). You can only do this once per 24 hour period so wait until you have maxed your fame before you do so to speed up the process. Since you get double fame/karma in Felucca, it is hgihly recommended that you raise your karma in a Feluccan dungeon or hunting ground. The fastest creatures to kill for karma gains are Lich Lords (20-25 mins from 0 fame to Lord/Lady). If you do not quite have the skills or magic resitance/armor to fight those creatures, evil mages lords are another excellent alternative (35-40 min from 0 fame to Lord/Lady). By sacrificing at Lord/Lady level every 24 hour period, you will attain Knight of Sacrifice in less than a week. Sacrifice is an extremely slow virtue to decay so you will not need to maintain it as frequently as other virtues but you should try to sacrifice at least once or twice a week. Once you have used all your sacrifices for the week, you will need to wait a few days until you may sacrifice again. When your timer is up, you will receive a system message upon loging in with that character informing you that your ability to sacrifice has been reset.
