Justice

"True peace is not merely the absence of tension: it is the presence of justice..."

– Marthin Luther King Jr.

Justice is the truth of what is right and wrong in human action and the love of what is right.”

In the world of UO this translates as the protection you provide others against evildoers. Basically, killing murderers. As you reward for cleansing the land of player killers, whenever you offer your protection to a fellow player during a Champion Spawn, for any scroll that player receives (whether a +5 during the spawn or a +10 or higher scroll upon the champion's death) you too will receive a scroll of random value. Since murderers are involved, this virtue only works in the Feluccan facet. You cannot use it in Trammel rulesets.

This virtue is particularly a must for players who do Champion spawns on a regular basis as they allow you to double the number of scrolls normally dropped by the Champ (12 instead of 6 for a normal champ and 32 instead of 16 for a harrower) thus increasing your chances of receiving +20s and +25s. You may receive the scroll dubs even if you are dead and even if the player you are protecting also died as long as he is still protected, as long as he did enough damage to receive a scroll and as long as you are on the same server. The scroll will remain on your ghost until you are resurrected.

Using Justice

Only innocents (blue players) can be protected. To protect a player, simply double click the Virtue gump above your avatar's head on your paperdoll then double click the Justice icon to get a target cursor. The click on the player you wish to protect. That player will receive a gump asking him if he wishes to be protected by you. If he agrees, you will receive a message saying he accepted. If he refuses, you will receive a message to that effect and you will be unable to protect another player for 15 minutes. So make sure to ask the player for permission to offer your protection before you do. If the player you are protecting logs our or loses connection, your protection will be automatically cancelled and you will need to offer it again. A player can also manually cancel protection by clicking on himself and selecting "cancel protection" from the context menu. This menu is also a good way for a player to verify that he is still being protected.

Your level of Justice determines the chance you will indeed receive a scroll, but not the quality of the scroll you receive. For instance, the protected player could receive a 110 healing and you could receive a 120 magery as a dub. But he could also receive a 115 peacemaking while you only get a 110 discordance. The scroll the protector receives is completely random. There is no limit to the number of players you can protect but you cannot protect a player if you are yourself being protected. Also, you cannot protect a player who is already being protected by someone else.

Seeker of Compassion: 60% chance of receiving a dub
Follower of Compassion: 80% chance of receiving a dub
Knight of Compassion: 100% chance of receiving a dub

Gaining Justice

This virtue is very easy, but relatively slow to gain. You must kill murderers. The honorable way is to go out and hunt reds. There is a 7 minute timer between each gains so rez-killing a murderer will not make you gain. You can only gain Justice once per 7 minutes so even killing different reds within that same time frame will make no difference. You can however have a red friend sacrifice himself to the cause and allow you to rez-kill him every 7 minutes. There are no limits to the gains you can get in one day. It is therefore possible to go from 0 Justice to GM in the same day. About 2-3 hours because of the timer. Once you have achieved Knight of Justice, you will only need to kill 1-2 reds every other 3 days to maintain your level. The higher the total skill level of the reds you kill and the more justice points you will receive for killing him. So avoid killing newbie reds or it will take you ages to reach the Knight level.
