Compassion
" I would rather feel compassion than know the meaning of it. "
Thomas Aquinas
“Compassion is nonjudgmental empathy for one's fellow creatures.”
In the world of UO this translates as the assistance you provide others. Whenever a fellow player dies, a disciple of Compassion who resurrects the ghost will automatically restore some of that player's health, the amount of HP being proportional to the disciple's level of Compassion. There is no delay on the use of this virtue nor maximum number of use. Every time you resurrect someone either through the Mage Resurrection Spell, through Noble Sacrifice or with Bandages, your level of Compassion will be taken into consideration to calculate your patient's restored health.
This virtue is particularly useful for players who hunt in heavy spawn areas and those who engage into PvP a lot as it allows you resurrect your comparables at almost full health (when Knight of Compassion) which often spares them from getting drobed. Since the spawn usually automatically retargets a person that resurrects on the same screen, this often results in spellcasters throwing a fireball at them, instantly killing them. With Compassion, that fireball will do little damage and give them a chance to run back to their corpse and retrieve their armor.
The HP regenerated on your patient upon resurrection according to your level of Compassion is as follows:
Seeker of Compassion: 20% of your patient's maximum health
Follower of Compassion: 40% of your patient's maximum health
Knight of Compassion: 80% of your patient's maximum health
Gaining Compassion
This virtue is very easy, but also very slow to gain. You must escort NPCs to their requested destination. It takes approximately 2 weeks to go from 0 to Knight of Compassion if you do it religiously every day. Why 2 weeks? Because you can only gain Compassion 5 times in a 24 hour period. Any additional escorts you perform before the 24 hour timer is over will not count towards your Compassion. It is therefore recommended that you focus your efforts on the NPCs that will give you the most Compassion points per escort. The Prisoners are worth the most points. The NPC dungeon escorts come 2nd and the NPC town escorts coming third. Once you have achieved Knight of Compassion, you will only need to do 2-3 escorts every other 2-3 days to maintain your Compassion level.
